Formentera island, due to its size, can be visited in just a few days. Some people take a one-day trip to Formentera, while others tour the island in a week.
Today, we will see what to see and do in Formentera in just one day.
How to get to Formentera from Ibiza
The island of Formentera does not have an airport; the only way to reach it is by sea. Due to the proximity between both islands, the most used access route is the one from Ibiza. It is the fastest and cheapest and, consequently, the most used route.
The schedules depend on the time of the year; in high season, there are boats every half hour, and the trip duration usually ranges between 30 and 60 minutes.
We recommend you find something to entertain yourself while you are in line to buy your ticket or are already on the ferry, as you may have to wait longer than you should in the high season. It could be a book or an iPad to kill the time while waiting, or if you like online games, check here what suits you best.
The main companies that make the trips are Balearia, Trasmapi, Mediterránea Pitiusa, and Aquabus. And if you still do not have a ticket, we advise you to use the Ferryhopper search engine to choose between schedules, prices, and options offered by all shipping companies for the dates you are interested in.
Four places to visit in Formentera in one day
Don’t let its size fool you; this island has a lot to offer. We propose below an itinerary of places to see in Formentera in one day.
What to see in Formentera in one day: Ses Illetes
When you think of Formentera, the first thing that comes to mind is the turquoise colors of an incredible paradise beach: Ses Illetes. It is the most iconic image of the island, and no wonder. We are talking about almost half a kilometer of virgin beach, fine white sand, and shallow turquoise and transparent waters that will make you feel in paradise. Of course, it is on all the lists of the best beaches in Spain.
We are in the Natural Park of Ses Salines of Eivissa and Formentera. As it is a protected area, we will have to pay a fee for access, depending on the season, between 2 and 4 euros for motorcycles and between 4 and 6 euros for cars. However, in case of arriving on foot, by bike, or by electric vehicle, it will be free.
A few meters from the last parking area, we find a vast expanse of sand with incredibly colored waters and total transparency that will captivate you instantly. Ses Illetes is framed within the Peninsula of Es Trucadors. An arm of sand and rock separates the beach of Ses Illetes on one side and the beach of Llevant on the other side.
Walk towards the end of this tongue of sand and be amazed by the beauty of these beaches until you reach the northern end of the peninsula of Es Trucadors. From there, we will be able to observe the island of Es Palmador surrounded by transparent waters. It only remains to decide in which area to take a bath and relax enjoying the essence of the Balearic Islands in its purest state.
Migjorn Beach
We change course. In the south of Formentera is the longest beach on the island. We are talking about 5 kilometers of sandy coastline divided into beautiful beaches and coves separated by the rocky orography of the terrain. It is a beach with similar characteristics to the rest of the island: fine sand and turquoise, clear, calm, and shallow waters. Due to its extension, it is the ideal place for those looking for tranquility.
Restaurant El Mirador
We leave the beach area to head towards the Lighthouse of La Mola. On the same road, and once we have gained some height, is the Restaurant El Mirador. Enjoying a panoramic view over much of the island is well worth stopping.
The views are some of the most impressive you can find on the island: a complete look at the north and south coasts surrounding the vegetation of the center of the island, the play of colors of the different shades of blue of the sea, and the silhouettes of the islands of Ibiza and Es Vedra as a backdrop.
Lighthouse of La Mola
We finish our tour of Formentera in one day in an extraordinary place. There is something about lighthouses that attracts us irremediably. Here you will feel that same magnetism. La Mola Lighthouse, a lighthouse slender like no other, was built in 1861 on the edge of some cliffs more than 120 meters above the sea.
Just let the wind ruffle your hair, flood your eyes with the immensity of the Mediterranean, listen to the sound of birds, feel the vertigo of the rock walls and wait for the magic of the lighthouse to envelop you.
In addition, the interior houses a museum and a cultural center. In the surroundings, you can see a commemorative plaque remembering the writer Jules Verne for setting one of his novels in this place.
