Why Solid Grooves at Privilege is the only place to be on Sunday nights
28th June 2019 0 comments

We hit up the grand opening of Solid Grooves to see what Michael Bibi and co had in the locker, safe to say it was an absolute belter.

A proven formula in throwing off the wall, shamelessly hedonistic showcases, Solid Grooves in Ibiza has certainly established itself amongst Ibiza’s elite tech house concepts. Like any event which expands through an organic buzz, the London party is no different.

Fuelled by the raw passion of Michael Bibi, Solid Grooves is more than just a sound and a brand, its a movement. For the past few years, the term Groovers (referring to their loyal fans) has been largely defined by genuine clubbers or those in-the-know, now word has spread and the term has evolved into a different beast altogether.

This undoubtedly explained the snake-like queue crawling round the perimeters of San Rafael super-club, Privilege. Home of Solid Grooves for the past few seasons, the world’s largest clubbing venue is an apt home for the party. Opening up the smaller, more intimate settings of the Vista Club, the size of the room suits the sound and crowd the brand is associated with.

Exciting line-ups and extraordinary vibes are the theme of 2019 for Bibi and company, and rightly so. Featuring such talented tastemakers like Darius Syrossian, Skream and Richy Ahmed, Groovers are certainly in for a treat.

A pillar of the tech house underground community, dance floor dynamite was the order of the evening from the Spanish native. Igniting true emotion and feeling from every corner of the Vista Club, Dennis carved an exhilarating musical journey through groove, rhythm and soul from the offset.

Following up was the evening’s special guest – a marquee name for almost any occasion… Warriors chief, Steve Lawler. The crowd erupted with fire and delight as the Birmingham selector ascended to the decks, and Steve responded in kind with a wealth of fine underground bombs, including his latest release on Moxy Musik, ‘K Trip’, which were well suited to the intimacy that surrounded him. Dynamic and driven, Steve continued to push the boundaries, both technically and creatively, throwing down another of his own productions ‘Narna (I Am Happy)’. A highlight set from an action-packed opening for sure.

Next up, Solid Grooves resident PAWSA took to the controls. Calm and collected, the London-based producer induced the audience with his trademark signature sound – innovative tech house with an old school vibe. Carefully-curated and primed for the dance floor, PAWSA’s performance was an honest reflection of what the label is all about, to simply let the music do the talking with his latest release, ‘Whippin’, proving to be the stand-out selection.

Closing out proceedings was Solid Grooves founder, Michael Bibi. A man who has been firing on all cylinders over the past few years, Bibi’s profile has risen remarkably in 2019. And despite religiously being in the studio and constantly touring, Bibi was at his absolute best in the Vista Club. Inserting his own unique stamp on proceedings with his latest track ‘Isolate Ctrl’ doing the damage, he heightened the atmosphere present even further. Watching the Balearic sun rising through the Vista Club’s spectacular glass windows, the crowd felt a new sense of euphoria was reached as Bibi  concluded his set to a standing ovation.

The Solid Grooves opener was presented and delivered as advertised, a stripped-back, no frills attached dose of authenticity complimented by the perfect balance of talented heavyweight names from the underground and a straightforward, unassuming crowd on an undying quest for hedonism.
