Royalty is one of the jewels to Santa Eulalia’s bustling promenade. With a curious backstory, this café sits right in the heart of all the action. It’s hard to miss the salmon-pink colonial building with its thick palm tree-lined terrace. It sports a leisurely, alfresco set-up that spills out onto the street making it the ultimate hangout. And you’ll often find it busy with people doing just that. An authentic Spanish menu offers unpretentious fare that you could easily come to for breakfast, lunch and dinner then everything in between. Since 1980 this establishment has been delighting its guests with remarkably affordable, homemade dishes.

Beyond its accessible offerings, Royalty is in fact steeped in history. As it goes, the restaurant served as a hub for the wealthy Royalists following the Spanish Civil War while, on the other side of the strip, Can Cosmi was the eatery the Republicans would frequent. Yet the building, made in 1933, was first developed as a small hotel. Today, you’ll find all the trappings of a quality cafeteria. A rotating menu del dia, mouth-watering tapas and fresh, traditional cakes and puddings. Watch the town come to life in the early morning over a café con leche and tostada. Or, after a long day perusing the shops, tuck into Spanish tortilla, risotto, lamb chops or seafood stew.

For when it’s scorching outside, choose to dine indoors. The interiors are similarly relaxed, featuring beamed ceilings and greenery, with the option to pull up a stool at their bar. It’s a particularly lively joint come nighttime where all walks of life convene. Either way, whatever time of day, it’s a place where you just can’t go wrong.
