He’s back!
After two years of an enforced clubbing hiatus, Calvin Harris jumpstarted his eponymous residency at Playa d’en Bossa party palace Ushuaïa Ibiza in style on Friday, June 3rd.
The multi-platinum-selling, award-winning DJ and producer never fails to pull in the crowds, so it was a surprise to none that the inaugural fiesta of his 14-week run at the glamorous open air venue was a sell-out success, with eager clubbers queuing around the block to get inside.
Supported by Billboard chart-topper MK, the renowned American producer and DJ who is well-known for his warm, emotive house sound, and Tyson O’Brien aka Generik, who joined Calvin Harris during his last stint at Ushuaïa Ibiza, the opening also saw fellow Scotsmen Illyus & Barrientos take to the decks.
The atmosphere was electric when we arrived at the famous clubbing destination, wiggling our way through the crowd to secure a space right in front of the festival-size stage. Even the slightly hazy sky couldn’t dampen our excitement, it was good vibes all round around the famous Ushuaïa Ibiza poolside.
This week’s special guests Illyus & Barrientos did a stellar job warming up the throbbing crowd in front of them; their rapacious and infectious beats super-boosted by Ushuaïa Ibiza’s powerful sound system.
As night began to fall, the anticipation was palpable in the air as a thousands-strong sea of clubbers was straining to catch a first glimpse of the man of the night, Calvin Harris.
With lasers slicing through the darkened sky and Ushuaïa Ibiza’s mind-blowing visuals announcing his arrival, the venue went wild when he finally stepped behind the decks.
An Ibiza veteran and expert commander of the booth, Calvin Harris took no time to whip the crowd into a frenzy with a confidently delivered mix of his own biggest hits and all-time dance music classics.
With flame-throwers and steam cannons bursting into the night sky, the chart-topping superstar and the team behind the world-class outdoor club showed exactly why their union is a match made in heaven – and a force to be reckoned with.
Calvin Harris is a day-to-night extravaganza fuelled by big beats and pure feel-good summer vibes, and it’s fair to say the opening went off with a bang – setting the tone for the sizzling summer weeks to come.
