Ibiza is one of the most visited islands in the world, and it’s especially popular with visitors from the UK thanks to its proximity. A maximum flight time of around 3.5 hours means that you don’t have to go all in and plan a whole vacation if time simply doesn’t allow for it: a short break is plenty of time to blow those cobwebs away and experience the best that the island has to offer, if you plan it right. Get the most bang for your buck and your time with our Ibiza trip planning guide, and you’ll be ready to make it a repeat trip every year!
The Planning
1. Plan The Logistics Well
First and foremost, time maximisation is smooth logistics planning. Wherever you are in the UK, you’ll be blessed with a short flight time; 3.5 hours at most. So what can you do to make the most of your time travelling? Start by booking a private jet charter instead of flying on a commercial airline. You’ll save time on draining airport queues, and be sure your luggage will get where it’s supposed to be in one piece. You’ll also be able to truly relax in your own space and use the flight time to take a little cat nap, research your destination some more or just take it easy and watch a movie without sharing an armrest or having to fight for the cabin crew’s attention.
We advise renting a car to traverse the island. Waiting on public transport or trying to book an Uber, especially in high season, will cut into your enjoyment time. Rent a car, and you’ll have the freedom to go where you want, when you like, even if the weather is extremely hot or a little rainy.
2. Research Excursions Beforehand
Anyone who’s ever been to Ibiza will tell you that it can get busy and overwhelming, to say the least. Having an idea of where you want to go and what you want to do before you arrive allows you to allocate the right amount of time for everything. There’s so much happening everywhere on Ibiza in high season that you’ll flit here and there like a magpie following shiny things, but you won’t actually get to enjoy things properly without a real plan.
3. Time Your Visit Right
Timing is everything when visiting Ibiza, and the timing of your trip will also be impacted by what you want to get out of it. Are you hitting the island for a nonstop party, or are you there to enjoy the culture and natural beauty? A bit of both? We’re going to look at planning for both eventualities.
- High season: July–Sept. The island will be completely abuzz with other tourists, and the party calendar will be in full swing. The weather will be hot and humid almost without exception.
- Shoulder seasons: April–May/September–October. The island will be less populated, but the weather will still be suitable for beach and nature activities. Some seasonal clubs and other locales may be closed.
4. Don’t Overindulge
Hot, humid weather and hangovers are not best friends. If you want to enjoy your days as much as your nights, remember to put a cap on your alcohol intake and, very importantly, remember always to stay hydrated and eat well so that your body and mind are up to all the exciting daytime excursions you’ve got planned, and the after-hours ones.
5. Stay In The Right Spot
Choosing the location of your accommodation well is another crucial step in the process. Being in a central-ish location will make getting around everything you want to see and do a little simpler, but you may need to trade off quiet in your space, especially during the high season. Staying out of town will have the opposite effect: getting around will be more peaceful but more challenging. It’s all about choosing where to be based on your priorities.
6. Leave A Little Time Unplanned
Even on a short trip, it’ll help your mental health to leave unplanned time. This can be for spontaneous wandering, just to take a load off and lie on your bed for a little while, or whatever else takes your fancy; that’s why it’s unplanned! Not having every second scheduled may not be the maximum efficiency in getting to more places and events, but trust us, it will make the trip much more enjoyable in the long run.
The Highlights
Ibiza Town Tasting
Love a little Spanish cuisine and want to see the town? Book a tasting! These usually run for 3-4 hours and take you to various Michelin-quality restaurants across town. You’ll sample local delicacies and specialities, probably drink delicious Spanish wine, and meet new friends while seeing the city.
Nature
It goes without saying that the beaches in Ibiza are second to none. These are some of the best ones to include on your itinerary:
- Cala Comte and Cala d’Hort for gorgeous sunsets and views
- Cala Xarraca and Cala Salada/Saladeta for clear water and great snorkelling
- Cala Vadella and Cala Nova for a family beach day
- Platja d’en Bossa and Ses Salines for a party vibe
- Aguas Blancas, or Cala d’en Serra for peace and quiet.
If you want to explore the forests and coastal trails, there are ATV trail tours that give the adventurers among us a bit of a thrill, but there are also plenty of hiking trails that can be taken at whichever pace best suits the group.
Hippie Markets
One of the most popular bohemian hippie markets in Ibiza is Las Dalias in San Carlos. If you’re looking for artistic and eclectic offerings and an event that is open year-round (Saturdays and for night markets in the summer months), this is for you! You can also shop for souvenirs and experience both culture and counterculture at the Punta Arabí Hippy Market in Es Canar.
Whitewashed Villages
Iiza’s villages are known for their classic white-washed look and traditional architecture. They’re quite a sight and make wonderful photography subjects, so make some time to head to the quieter, more rural parts of the island and visit villages like Sant Joan de Labritja, Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera, Sant Carles de Peralta, and Es Cubells.
Nightlife
Ibiza is home to some of the most exciting and bustling clubs in the world, which is no surprise to anyone considering a trip there. Clubs known for their comfortable VIP areas, celebrity guests, and celebrity performers are ones like Hï Ibiza, Ushuaïa Ibiza, and Pacha Ibiza, while places like Nikki Beach and Blue Marlin Elvissa have incredible poolside parties every summer. Pack your best party outfits and swimwear, because you’ll need them!
