Off the Beaten Path in Ibiza: Five Hidden Gems

Sunset Ibiza

Though Ibiza is largely touted as one of the world’s first and best party scenes, there’s plenty more than what meets the eye—after all, the location has kept tourists returning for decades. Aside from vibrant nightlife, there’s history, culture, and more than a handful of breathtaking views.

However, there are a few stereotypes that can be tough for visitors to navigate—especially those who aren’t visiting the island to go raving all night, swim with the dolphins, or hike through multiple museums. So, for the quirky traveler and seasoned backpacker, is Ibiza really worth a trip?

Absolutely. After all, every popular tourist destination has its own unique underbelly, where locals and transplants live year-round… even when the tourists stop flocking. Are you interested in visiting Ibiza and have zero interest in beach parties, scuba diving, and guided walking tours? Keep reading for five of Ibiza’s most underrated hidden gems.

Beach’n’Chips Casino
Platja d’en Bossa

Located just beside Platja d’en Bossa, the Beach’n’Chips Casino delivers on the lively Ibiza vibe… just with a slightly more unique style. This location is casual, including delicious bar specialties like loaded burgers and, of course, fish’n’chips. Even better, there are slots and table games open to customers for cheap.

For the most part, new gamers learn the ropes by playing poker online. However, there are few experiences as rewarding as sitting down for a table game with friends—and especially winning a few hands. Keep in mind that there are guides for beating friends, which cover basics like table positions and helpful Twitch streams. And what could be better than sweeping a game at a 1950s-themed, fish’n’chips, diner-style casino in Ibiza?

Sunset in Sant Josep de sa Talaia (or Sa Talaissa)
Sant Josep

Most people in Ibiza have a different opinion about which part of the island’s western portion is perfect for sunset-gazing. With plenty of locations on offer in Sant Josep de sa Talaia from five-star restaurants to relaxing ashrams, a hike might not be ideal for everyone. But those willing to brave a short walk (or a steep climb) will find no better location to watch the sun sink into the horizon than the peak of Sa Talaissa. Be sure to bring blankets—even in summer, nightly temperatures can drop on the peak.

Blue seas of ibiza

Atlantis
Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort

While the fictitious title may be more than enough to lure in curious travelers, this hidden cove is one of the most well-known mystical experiences—even if not many tourists end up visiting. The location is only accessible by private boat, which means a visit to the Lost City will cost a pretty penny.

The small cove is part of the Cala d’Hort nature reserve, which is known for crystal-clear waters. ‘Atlantis’ is actually the remnants of a stone quarry that dates back centuries. From there, the square-cut coves were rediscovered by the vibrant travelers that flocked to Ibiza in the 1960s. Some even left their mark by sculpting into the stone…

Lio Ibiza
Ibiza Town

Just because some travelers might not be interested in all-night raves doesn’t mean they’d turn down a walk on the wilder side. In such cases, Lio Ibiza is a great compromise. The club delivers on a classy, exciting cabaret show that has a flashy club feel—and a dinner-show combo to die for.

Bird Watching

Ibiza or Formentera

Wild-life refuges and protected areas dot the island of Ibiza and Formentera. Those looking for a truly unique experience in nature can take the ferry to Formentera, where there are more than a few delightful surprises and over 200 species of bird. Peregrine falcons come to winter in the region, while flamingos do the same from August to October each year.

For those interested in a nature-based trip, Formentera will be a relaxing and delightful escape. However, similar opportunities can be found throughout Ibiza, including the aforementioned Sant Josep de sa Talaia region. Keep in mind that you’ll need a tour guide for such excursions.
